The cold can't stop us

Everett and I had a birthday party to go to, and I thought I was so clever, taking the subway. It was already too late to transfer when they announced the subway was undergoing construction and running on a different line. So we got off at the next stop which was nowhere near where we were supposed to go. Normally, walking a mile or so wouldn't be a big deal, but it was about 13° out and we were in the middle of Dumbo, trying to get to Brooklyn Heights, which meant we had to walk along the highway, under the bridges, through parking lots, sometimes with no sidewalk trudging through snow and dodging traffic. By the time we got to the party, our feet were soaked, we were on the verge of tears, and almost completely numb from the cold. But we did manage to make the best of it and have as much fun as we could. And I taught Everett that sometimes "adventures" can turn into "debacles." This was definitely one of those times.

On second thought, maybe that frigid "debacle" was more fun than the actual party.

The way home was much better – we went to a closer subway station.
